Self contained seminar

Brandon Bays story is engaging as she shares her personal journey of healing. The book teaches the system and even gives you a script you can use. I liked this book so well that I even went to a Journey workshop. I've been to a variety of workshops and I saw some great breakthroughs for some of the people attending. I think this is a great tool for people who do counseling to integrate into their resources. You can do some real healing reading this book and taking the journey.

I guess I want to add one more thing. I don't think there is any such thing as a panacea. Nothing is everything to everyone. The price of a book is a simple investment if it will bring you any degree of healing. I believe it to be worthwhile to explore and I'm really glad I read it. Best blessings!

Title a bit misleading

This book was interesting but as it was called 'A Practical Guide..." I expected that it would have exercises to do - not just one meditation at the end. I was also disappointed to find that I would have to purchase a CD if I wanted to do the guided meditation, and that there didn't seem to be an avenue to purchase it as an MP3.
It should have been described as a personal story, not a practical guide. overall I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

LOVE THIS BOOK!

I learned about the Journey while getting my hypnosis certification this summer. I had in mind that I wanted to read the book, and to my delight, I found it in a discount rack at Strand in NYC! I loved the book so much that I have since bought additional copies for people I know with cancer, eye problems, and other ailments who I thought could really benefit from reading such an inspirational piece. It had also made me more aware of how I a FEEL during different situations. Now when something bad happens and I feel it in my chest, I take moment to witness and understand why, instead of suppressing, as I have done many times in the past.

Ellie (real name Velvet Sunset) is on a parallel quest, to find her unknown father. Yet this summer will give her the chance to discover more about herself than about Mabel or the missing man who fathered her. For Blue, meeting Ellie breaks down walls of protection errected around his life;One filled with loss of his parents, early and his wife five years ago. Driven by the relationship building between these finely carved characters, Ruth Wind has fashioned a deep, pulsating love story. Ruth Wind - Where have you been all my life?

I am one of those people who never pays any attention to "category" romances - just breeze right by them--so this book was my first exposure to Ruth Wind. Boy, have I been missing out! She is a fabulous writer, with the ability to wrap a location around you, people it with believable characters, and even give you a sound track to go with it. I devoured this book in two days, with the house practically falling down around me, but I couldn't stop until I had all the answers. I loved the characters--small town, but not cliches or caricatures, and I loved Pine Bend, with it's heat and its food, it's sorrows and its secrets. I can't get enough of Pine Bend, and I can't get enough of Ruth Wind. Anyone who is getting tired of romantic suspense, or who wants something a little more in-depth and darker-edged than Krentz or Roberts, look no further.

It was a good story with unexpected endings.

It was more of a mystery than a romance. I prefer to be more emotionally drawn in than this book provided. However, someone looking for more human relationships fiction and mystery might enjoy this more than I did.

Ellie traveled to Pine Bend, Texas, to do research for a book she was writing about Mabel Beauvais. Mabel was a blues singer who disappeared twenty to thirty years earlier. Ellie was also trying to discover who her father was. She knew he was in Pine Bend when Ellie was conceived. Ellie's mother died when Ellie was six months old. The story was a little frustrating when Ellie talked to people who knew answers to her questions but refused to tell her anything. The ending was satisfying and the answers to the mysteries were good and unexpected. Although there was some underlying sadness in the story due to so many good young men dying in the Vietnam war, leaving their loved ones to live on without them.

Regarding the SPOILERS below,I am not giving away answers to the main mysteries.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Ellie and Blue fell in love. The problem for them was that everyone Blue had loved had died on him, so he was reluctant to love again. Why he changed his mind at the end of the book and decided to be with her and not fear losing her was not clear enough for me.

I was also confused with a few scenes throughout the book titled "The Lovers." When reading them I wasn't sure if they were a dreams of Ellie or Blue or were flashbacks to events in the lives of Mabel or Ellie's mother. At the end of the book I concluded they were of Ellie's parents, but I would have preferred knowing this earlier when reading them.

Life-Changing Book!

This book is life-changing especially for those who have grown up in a dysfunctional "family" and were abused as children. Healing the inner or wounded child is the main key to beginning the healing and recovery process. Going through the grief work is extremely painful but a necessary part of loss and healing. Anger also must be dealt with in productive ways since anger and grief are two sides of the same coin. I also recommend "Toxic Parents" and "Mothers Who Can't Love" both by Dr. Susan Forward since it introduces a person to soothing or healing the wounded child that each of us were.

Read it more than once. John inspired me to take 15 months of my life out to co-found and fund a successful spousal and child abuse prevention center. Powerful, enlightening, sometimes necessarily painful masterpiece.

Victim No More

This book is a classic. It can be read alone or with a close friend who can help with the exercises. I read it on my own and almost put myself into a trance as I dug so deeply into my past. The insights are groundbreaking as Bradshaw eases the reader into uncharted territories of understanding, healing, forgiveness and moving forward. For anyone who feels victimized by past trauma in family relationships, this is a must read. It gently challenges the reader to grow up and leave the victimization behind.
