great guide to visceral techniques, osteopathic medicine and osteopathy for pregnant women

Got this book to help me manage problems other than standard musculo-skeletal pain and biomechanical dysfunction. Gives insight into evidence behind physiologic concepts and how osteopaths link manipulations and techniques to various types of problems. Well written and without confusing 'osteo-speak' to hinder reading. Good illustrations - at last something that gives pictures that actually help! The obstetrics chapter was a good overview, shame it couldn't be longer. The case history sections gave lots more info into the osteopathic approaches and treatment rationales than the preceding chapters, which reviewed the anatomy and techniques in more detail. Contains lots of useful approaches to many visceral conditions such as respiratory problems and various gut problems that are not often discussed in osteopathic texts, and can be applied to adults and children / infants alike. A great buy - definitely worth it. Sure to be useful to all osteos working in these areas, and other professions who want to know what osteopaths do.

A very mis-leading title and cover. Obstetrics was left until the last chapter and was very thin on the ground. I brought this book to help me with further information about pregnant women and infants. It was of very limited help. This is a book on Visceral Osteopathy, not Obstetrics or infants. Although well written, I feel ripped off as it very clearly states visceral and obstetrics, but is 95% visceral. If you are looking for a visceral book this is great, if you want information about pregnancy and infants i suggest looking at other books.

A Million Little Fibers is an ideological mess, a paranoid right-wing fantasy masquerading as an Orwellian warning. It pretends to oppose the police state and forced mind control, but all it really does is celebrate the nastiness of its hero, Towelie. Fascinating and Disturbing.

Rio (Vampire) is doing everything he can to find him and in the midst of searching, a dream walker, Rio's mate Cass, appears. He helps with the search but he has his own limitations.

There's a larger cast of characters in this book and it took me awhile to reacquaint myself. Along with the background came a few misplaced words, two that I caught. Once Ian and Cass start interacting in person the story picked up.

Who knows how long Cass was imprisoned, seeking relief by escaping in astral form. His past is one where he's been taken advantage of and his trust and powers were abused. In short, his outlook on life is tainted, his family gone, and he only has himself to rely on. He wakes up from his rescue scared, distrustful, and can't think why mating will make his life any different. For such a powerful magic user, Cass is insecure. He withheld his concerns and needs from Rio and hides his true nature of being a submissive. Cass wasn't quite a wimpy clingy whiner but it was close at times.

Rio is a five hundred year old vampire, Ian's son. Of course he is an alpha in every sense of the word. He wants control in the bedroom and he loves to explore bondage games with his mate. Thankfully his alpha tendencies are balanced by his caring. The title Trusting Rio is just that - Giving heart, body, and soul into a mate's care and that is done thru trust and love.

SPOILER - Don't read unless you read the book -

The ending: So a soul is bound and it didn't die when the body does. The soul is connected to Rio and he grounds it within himself with his own soul. Okay. So when the mystical magical connect happens somehow Cass is able to astral project a physical body to where he can talk and physically interact with Rio and anyone else. Yet he died and his soul is housed with his magic in Rio. That is what I got out of it, who knows if my imagination led me in the right direction. It still doesn't make sense. I'd expect a ghost type being.

SPOILER OVER

I'll give this 3.5 stars because of some minor editing, choppy in the beginning with background information pouring out and disrupting the flow, and that ending that didn't sit right. And the odd thing is, throughout the story those around Rio are distrustful of Cass. They never opened up completely and accepted him. They were always a bit suspicious. So the ending should have had some acceptance of having Cass in their lives. It needed to happen, the clan and forming pack needed closure to Rio's suffering and a step towards healing. - Dan's Wife

This sixth edition of Modern Political Analysis appears more than a decade after its immediate predecessor and in the early years of a new century and new millennium. Notwithstanding the passage of years and accompanying political events—of which the audacious terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, are surely among the most prominent—this new edition of Modern Political Analysis reaffirms enduring perspectives on the nature of politics and how contemporary political scientists analyze it. Even so, this edition, marked by the addition of a co-author (Bruce Stinebrickner) to work with the original author (Robert A. Dahl), reflects a thorough revision of what has gone before.

Our treatment of influence and the nature of politics in Part I has been substantially revised and reordered to make it more easily grasped by student readers. Chapter 1 describes people in different situations of influence, ranging from those with virtually no influence over others to enormously powerful figures like Hitler and Stalin. Only after these historical accounts in Chapter 1 do we treat in more abstract fashion the central concept of influence and its relationship to politics and associated phenomena in the remaining four chapters in Part I.

The four chapters that constitute Part II treat similarities and differences among the world's political systems and generally parallel the approach used in the fifth edition. However, the demise of the Soviet Union since that previous edition has reshaped the political landscape in a large part of the world and significantly increased the number of sovereign states on this planet, all of which is reflected in relevant tables and figures presented in Chapters 8 and 9. Yet our analysis in Chapter 9 confirms that earlier editions' overarching approach to the factors that facilitate democracy in national political systems has stood the test of time. In this context, we wish to thank Sunil K. Sahu, a colleague of Stinebrickner at DePauw University, and Michael Coppedge of the University of Notre Dame, a former graduate student of Dahl at Yale, for their help in revising various sections of Part II. Professor Sahu suggested many bibliographic and data sources relevant to our analysis in Chapters 6 through 9, while Professor Coppedge provided insights that assisted in the construction of the "polyarchy index" that underlies Figures 9-1 and 9-2.

The two chapters that make up Part III have both been substantially revised, but in different ways. We conclude the book in Part IV by blending old and new material in a new chapter entitled "What Good Is Modern Political Analysis?" In that chapter we incorporate recent work by political scientists suggesting how political science can and does have applicability and relevance outside the academic world.

Chapter 1
Prostate Gland Exercises

For Taoists, sexual exercises are not merely a way to enhance sexual pleasure or become more attractive. These exercises are a means to enjoy a more vigorous and healthy body, a way to become sensitive to deeper and more intense emotions, and a way to cultivate spiritual energy.

In the East, as well as in the West, exercise is a crucial way to keep the body healthy. But when it comes to increasing sexual energy, the teachers of the East have taken exercise to a new level. To strengthen our sexual energy, and thus strengthen the senses and the whole body, the Eastern traditions have developed exercises that focus specifically on the sexual area. By strengthening the sexual organs (including the prostate gland) through exercise and massage, we actually affect the rest of the body and senses. There are pelvic exercises that greatly strengthen the reproductive organs and the complex network of tendons in the surrounding area. Strength in this department is of great importance; it is the root of both a man’s and a woman’s health.

THE PROSTATE GLAND

The prostate gland is an organ that is located at the base or outlet of the urinary bladder. The gland surrounds the first part of the urethra, the passage through which urine drains from the bladder to exit from the penis. One function of the prostate gland is to help control urination by pressing directly against the part of the urethra that it surrounds. The main function of the prostate gland is to produce some of the substances that are found in normal semen, the fluid that transports the sperm to assist with reproduction.

In a young man, the normal prostate gland is the size of a walnut. During normal aging, however, the gland usually grows larger. This hormone-related enlargement is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Though this condition is not associated with prostate cancer, both BPH and prostate cancer can cause similar problems in older men. An enlarged prostate gland can squeeze or impinge on the outlet of the bladder or the urethra, leading to difficulty with urination. The resulting symptoms commonly include slowing of the urinary stream and urinating more frequently, particularly at night.

Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops in the prostate gland. Most prostate cancers are slow growing; however, there are cases of aggressive prostate cancers. The cancer cells may metastasize from the prostate to other parts of the body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes. In addition to causing difficulty with urination, prostate cancer may cause pain, problems during sexual intercourse, or erectile dysfunction. Prostate cancer tends to develop in men over the age of fifty. It is the most common malignancy in American men and the second leading cause of deaths from cancer, after lung cancer.

Exercising Your PC Muscle

Exercising your pubococcygeus (PC) muscle will develop your ejaculatory control, which will prevent the premature urge to ejaculate. It will also enhance the ability to achieve hard erections; improve blood circulation for enhanced size and sensation; drastically improve sexual stamina; increase ejaculation volume and intensity, improve urinary flow, and convey the ability to have multiple orgasms. And it can actually help save your life by giving you a well-developed, healthy prostate.

The first step to beginning your PC workout is locating your PC muscle. Some men have been able to locate their PC muscle for years without knowing it. If you can make your penis move on its own when you have an erection, you have located your PC muscle. If you cannot do this, the next time you urinate, stop the flow of urine before you finish. The muscle you use to stop yourself from urinating is the PC muscle.

Men can enhance their sexual prowess and energy by doing at least 200 to 500 PC flexes a day. Ancient Taoists called this exercise “tightening the anus” because flexing the PC muscle also makes your anus tight. Try doing 10 to 20 flexes to see how well you can focus on them. If your PC feels tired after 20 flexes, you are very out of shape.

PC Muscle Chi Exercises
Warming Up

1. Start out by squeezing and relaxing your PC muscle at a steady pace for a good 30 flexes.
2. At the end of the set, rest for 30 seconds.
3. Continue with 2 more sets, resting for 30 seconds between each set.

After completing 3 sets, you should have better control over your PC muscle due to the increased flow of blood and chi.

PC Clamps

1. Squeeze and release over and over again. Start with sets of 30 and build yourself up to sets of 100 or more.
2. Make sure you do at least 300 PC Clamps a day for the rest of your life.

The PC muscle heals quite quickly; you may find yourself waking up with a hard erection every morning. You will soon find that doing this exercise every day is the best move you could ever make for your sexual health and vitality.

Long Slow Squeeze

1. Warm up with a set of 30 clamps then flex as hard and as deep as you possibly can.
2. When you cannot squeeze any deeper, hold where you are for a count of 20.
3. Rest for 30 seconds.
4. Repeat 5 times.

After a month or so of exercising, you should be able to do squeeze-and-hold sessions for at least several minutes at a time. This particular exercise will give you erections of steel and the ability to last as long as you want in bed. You should eventually work your way up to 10 sets of 2-minute-long holds.

Pretty unusual exercises for European men. But very efficient to relief and heal prostate problems (together with some herbs). I recommend the book to men with open mind to heal or the prevent problems with prostate.

a life saving book

The beginner may find this book difficult to comprehend, even "hilarious", but as a student of Mantak Chia for over twenty years I consider this book crucial for all men who want to avoid the prostate problems that majority of mature men will have otherwise.

Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore, it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand."

A Theologian's Nightmare

This book consists of twenty-one essays written by Bertrand Russell (1872 to 1970) between 1912 and 1961. They were compiled and edited by Al Seckel, a member of the Bertrand Russell Society and one who has lectured extensively on Russell's life and work. According to Seckel, "the purpose of this collection is to bring together in one...volume some of Russell's most delightful thought-provoking essays on [organized] religion."

Some topics discussed are agnosticism, atheism, rationalism, churches, God, the soul, science, free thought, sin, and faith. He examines these and other topics with "rational skepticism" which is "withholding judgment where the evidence is not sufficient, or, even more so, when there is contrary evidence."

This collection of essays definitely captures the scope and depth of Russell's thinking on religion. His logic and reasoning are impeccable. I now understand why he was called "the world's most famous atheist."

The book is divided into five parts. Here are the titles of my favorite essays taken from each part:

I. (6 essays)

(1) Why I am not a Christian.
(2) The faith of a rationalist. (No supernatural reasons are needed to make humans kind.)

II. (5 essays)

(1) A debate on the existence of God. (Between Russell and a Father of the church.)

III. (2 essays)

(1) Science and religion.

IV. (6 essays)

(1) An outline of intellectual rubbish.
(2) The value of free thought. (How to become a truth-seeker and break the chains of mental slavery.)
(3) Ideas that have harmed mankind (and womankind).
(4) Ideas that have helped mankind (and womankind).

V. (2 essays)

(1) The theologian's nightmare.

Before the first essay begins, there is a brief biography of Bertrand Russell (later Lord Russell) by Seckel. It is very thorough as evidenced by the more than 55 footnotes at its end.

Finally, the only problem I had with this book is with regard to referencing. All essays are not referenced or inadequately referenced. I know that Russell in his other works extensively referenced. Thus, I'm not sure if Seckel edited out references to save space and assumed that the reader would believe everything Russell said due to his reputation. On a subject like this, I think references should have been kept in. Also, there is a bibliography at the end of the book. But it is really just a list of books written by Russell.

In conclusion, this is a fascinating collection of essays by one of most prolific and brilliant thinkers and writers of the twentieth century. Now I understand why Russell won the 1950 Nobel Prize in literature!!

Everything I expected

After reading 'Why I am not a christian', I was excited to find that there existed an even larger collection of Mr. Russells essays. Some of the essays in this book are already in 'Why I am not a christian', including that particular essay. The others I had not read before were informative, well-structured, and balanced. He was truly a man ahead of his time.

The best collection of Russell's writings on religion

Al Seckel's "Bertrand Russell on God and Religion" is easily the best collection of Russell's writings on religion, as it contains all the most important and best ones: "Why I Am Not a Christian", "What Is An Agnostic", "The Theologian's Nightmare" and his memorable debate with Frederick Copleston SJ on the existence of God, in addition to a good introduction on the life and work of Russell and a complete Russellian bibliography. I also have the volume "Russell on Religion" edited by Andersson & Greenspan and it's also a good one, but the Russell vs. Copleston debate is surprisingly missing in that one, and I think that's a big omission. Both books share some of the most important essays, but in terms of completeness if I were to choose between both, I'll keep this one. Nice essays such as "The Value of Free Thought" and "An Outline of Intellectual Rubbish" are also missing in the Andersson & Greenspan anthology but are included in Al Seckel's one. Another nice essay which, perhaps due to its extension, is missing in both anthologies but should have been included is "What I Believe". This book is a must-have in the library of any skeptic and freethinker.
