Elliot Gold, known as "Cameraman" to the Chosen Few, spent two years riding along with, photographing and interviewing the motorcycle club in the 1970s, then returned 40 years later to reinterview and photograph the club.

Most Accurate Account I've Ever Read................................

This is the only book I've read about motorcycle clubs that isn"t pure bull.... Most other authors are members of various clubs that want to immortalize THEMSELVES. Mr. Gold has managed to capture an accurate and factual account of the lifestyle and the people who live it. There is a big difference between bikers and motorcycle riders. To the former, it's a way of living life. To the latter, it's a means of transportation. I liked the fact that it tracked specific members through four decades; not an easy task. I would whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone thinking about entering the lifestyle, living the lifestyle, or just curious about the lifestyle. I understand Mr. Gold is working on a video; I look forward to watching it when it becomes available. Thank you, Mr. Gold, for setting the record straight.........................................

I've decided the Kindle is the Devil's right hand, but.... [REVISED 14 JULY 2016]

I've decided the Kindle is the Devil's right hand. It used to be a pistol (see Steve Earle, Copperhead Road, 1988) but now it's those dang e-books.
My one-star rating has nothing to do with the content of the book. I give it a low mark only because the book itself is inaccessible to those of us who cannot or will not use Kindle-type devices. It puzzles and dismays me that more and more titles like The Chosen Few, certain to appeal to aging baby boomers, are being released solely in digital format. It's obviously a deliberate choice, and I assume it's intended to boost sales of Kindles. However, as noted above, some of us opt not to and others absolutely CAN'T use the e-books - for myself, I get headaches and fatigue trying to read lengthy documents on any electronic screen, and am forced to waste all kinds of paper printing out articles and essays I wish to enjoy. If printing a Kindle book is even possible (and I have no idea whether it is or isn't) the amount of paper and ink required would surely be cost-prohibitive.
So, please cut us dinosaurs some slack, and release this title in print!

Since I wrote my original screed (above) about Kindle, and the publisher's failure to produce a hard-copy version of this title, TeleSpan Publishing has made its amends to the Dinosaur-American community. The Chosen Few: A 40-Year Look at an Outlaw Motorcycle Club is now available on Amazon. It is a well-bound paperback, 6.5 x 8.5" with nicely-reproduced color and black-and-white photographs throughout. I've just skimmed it to date, but it looks like an enjoyable read. For these reasons, I upgrade my original one-star rating to five-star.
Of course, if, upon reading, "The Chosen Few: A 40-Year Look at an Outlaw Motorcycle Club" turns out to be utter dreck, that grade can always be reduced as easily as it was raised, but I have high hopes. I think this book is gonna be a keeper.

I was familiar with the Chosen Few before I read this book and actually thought of patching over from my club to the Few. This book really shed light on the true origins of the club and describes what brotherhood really should be.
