This second volume in the A Veterinary Guide To The Parasites Of Reptiles series provides complete information necessary for an accurate diagnosis and treatment of reptiles affected by arthropod parasites (excluding mites). Susan Barnard (Department of Herpetology, Zoo Atlanta) and Lance A. Durden (Institute of Arthropodology and Parasitology, Georgia Southern University) collaborate to produce a text that is comprehensive and presented in annotated outline form for quick reference. Chapters are divided by arthropod groups (true bugs, flies, fleas, and ticks), and includes descriptions, hosts, host locations, sources of infestation and life cycles. Also included is a chapter on laboratory procedures for the herpetoculturist, and a bibliography of more than 430 references. Also highly recommended is the first volume in this series, A Veterinary Guide To The Parasites Of Reptiles: Volume 1, Protozoa.

Good scientific reference. A few more pictures and diagrams would always help, but still very useful for identification. The chapter on Ticks (Ixodoidea) is excellent. The summary tables of parasiticides (appendix 1) and hosts/parasites (Appendix 3) are particularly useful.

I think it would be more convenient if volumes 1 & 2 were combined. I'm now off hunting for a copy of volume 1.

It helps students learn how programs work, please be aware that this book new comes with an access code. Without the access code you can still use the program this book is designed for, however, you cannot save any of your work. The access code alone can be purchased for 50-80$ from cengage and other websites.

Must be in cahoots with professors

To pay 80 bucks for a pamphlet and a broken down version of Visio (At least Visio will will allow you to cut and paste or change your loop structures) is a slap in the face to intelligent people. The guidebook is written at a middle school level. And I hope I am not insulting them. This is why college loans are outrageous, you have to pay for this kind of BS. So if you don't know folks Visual Logic is a 'LIVE' flow charting software. You can do simple algorithms and 'TEST' them to see that they function. You are going to pay 80 bucks for a spell check program really. You can see your logic better with MS Visio since once you go past two loops on VL it goes way off the screen and you lose track of where you are. Heaven help if you have to move a decision statement cause then you have to cut the whole loop: and there is no undo... I could go on but my BP is up...just pissed I had to waste money buying this garbage.

They do not tell you that you need an access card in order to use the program, so if you are trying to save money and get a used one, in the end it is going to cost you more.

A good book for getting to college level

We use this text for the supplemental/academic skills courses we offer at my community college, for those people whose reading skills are rusty for a number of reasons, including having been out of school for a number of years (sometimes as long as four or five decades), not having paid attention in class in high school, or other low-level literacy related reasons.

This book is well organised for a semester-long course that will bring out many of the critical skills necessary for doing college level work. Regardless of the discipline one goes into in college, one will have to do reading - this is as true in the nursing school, the electronics/drafting programmes, the business skills areas as well as those going on to full-fledge four-year and onward college degrees.

The book begins by exploring issues in active learning and vocabulary, some of the key concepts necessary for comprehending easily what one is reading. From there, particular kinds of reading skills are emphasised - looking for the main idea, recognising patterns of organisation and flow, seeing different points of view in the text, and beginning practice with critical thinking and engagement skills.

Within each section, there are readings and essays designed to strengthen the points being emphasised. These come from a wide variety of sources and cover a lot of different topics, so that they are not all about any particular thing, but rather each student will most likely find something of interest along the way. Each section ends with a vocabulary booster piece, and the final chapter is a very useful guide of test-taking techniques and study tips.

I find the articles very interesting, and the questions developed for the various articles enhance my understanding (this despite the fact that I have, by comparison to the target audience for this text, a very advanced degree of reading capability). This is a popular book among the students who come into our tutoring centre; they have questions and need help with the various concepts, but most like the variety of selections. One particular favourite is the essay entitled 'Monkey Love', by James V. McConnell, that gives a brief history of the Harlow experiments with young monkeys and surrogate mother figures. Essays on terrorism, women in history, low-carb pizza, media influences, Malcolm X (and his story about learning to read), and other pieces relevant to our current culture make reading less of a chore and more of a pleasure, which is key to getting students to progress through the material. The pages are colourful and interesting to look at from a graphic/visual standpoint, which also aids in the learning process.

The title 'Bridging the Gap' is very appropriate, given the task is to bridge the gap between high school (however long ago that was for many students) and college-level reading they will shortly encounter after taking this class.

Great way to learn

This product is amazing, far beyond my expectations of it. The best part is the audio CD's follow almost exactly along with the book. In some ways it's better than rosetta stone and others it isn't. But I would definitely recommend this over Rosetta stone just because it has course books and exercises to do. Hope this helps!! :)

It's Not a Classroom Course But Great for Self Study

Living Language courses are great for introducing grammar and vocab. The exercises in the books are helpful for reinforcing what you read and listen to.
I own the Complete German and the Complete French courses and recommend them both. If you buy them though, make sure you purchase another workbook and some vocab building books also. The exercises in the books are good, but you'll need more to keep practicing. And, can you really ever have a big enough vocabulary?

I'm half German and so is my husband. He was born and raised in Germany and is fluent in the language. Both my mom and younger sister still live there as well. So, to get to the point, having a background in the language; It's time to become fluent. FINALLY.

I really chose this program based on price, but the reviews did help a lot. It comes handy with it's own book holder. It has 3 workbooks---
Essential
Intermediate
Advanced

It has a nice sized notebook, and then a tri-fold with 9 audio discs.

The books are straight to the point, with a TON of information on each page. I have to put the books down, let the information simmer and then get back to it. There hasn't been an area where I've been like "ok this is a waste of time." I mean, I paid about $31 bucks and for the price I am on my way to a new language.

The audio discs are basic and I wish it was a bit more organized. When it comes to pronunciation and dialect, it is on point.

The online community is very basic too, but I think the little games they have really help.

Now; I'm very lucky to have many German speaking family members, because that is what is ultimately going to help me become fluent. You need to make sure whatever language you are learning, you can find someone to converse with.

If you want to learn a language, you need to jump on these programs. Just do it...now....scnhell! [hurry]

The book brings these and other stories vividly to life. With so many eligible princesses to choose from, Germany was the royal marriage market for Europe, and German princesses married into all of Europe’s royal families. The book looks at how the British royal family is descended from the rulers of these German kingdoms and duchies. It also brings out two themes; the lottery of arranged dynastic marriages for royal princesses, and the equally sad fate of their landless younger brothers. The German royal princes abdicated in 1918 at the end of World War I. As they lost their royal families, many of the schl�sser went into decline and became prisons, workhouses and other institutions. Some were behind the iron curtain for 50 years. The book charts these difficult years and their resurgence and use today as museums, hotels and public buildings. The book is intended to be easy to read, light-hearted and entertaining. It has more than 50 illustrations and 9 family trees. The schl�sser included range from fortified castles of the middle ages, to grand palaces built in the 18th century in imitation of Louis XIV’s Versailles, to stately homes from the turn of the 20th century. Many of them are not well known outside Germany and visiting these wonderful buildings is a real treat. About the Author
The accidental discovery by Susan Symons of a portrait of Queen Victoria in her attic triggered her fascination with European Royal History. By reading about the Queen’s colourful life story she realised that history need not be the boring subject she learnt at school and that royal history can be both fascinating and fun. She says it is like a historical version of Hello magazine. This is Susan’s first book on her lifelong interest in royal history. It was written after she and her husband went on holiday to Germany and visited 25 different historic castles and palaces (called ‘schloss’ in German). With dozens of royal families in Germany until the country was fully unified, there are many more castles to go. So watch out for the next instalment in book 2 of Schloss. Susan has an MA in Victorian Studies from London University. She lives with her family in Cornwall, in the far south west of the UK, which for her is the most beautiful part of the whole country.

Great Self Help/Healing Book

What I Can Tell You: I am not big on self help books because I feel that most of them say things that are so blatantly obvious that it almost seems condescending to read it. However, this one was smart and thorough full of intelligent solutions that can help woman or men work through the transitions of life giving tools and observations that will inspire and heal.

My favorite chapter deals with religion and spirituality. I loved her Spirit Principals to Live By especially the Live an Open Life where she states "Everything for your journey is already with you." She is right you know? It is the world that messes us up, our foundations, upbringing, etc. We come into this world completely ready for everything and then life gets in the way of clarity. Also, "Be faithful to yourself!" Has there ever been a more real statement! So many people, if they were just faithful to themselves and WHO they are, would just be so much more happier. We feel we have to be a certain way, around certain people, we compromise who we are, what we feel, think, want, yet, it gets us no where but feeling unfilled.

This isn't a one night read. This is one of those books that you scan, find gems throughout, open randomly or when needed.

Brenner writes with great intelligence, passion and skill. This is a must read for all-whether you are going through the daily routines of life or are in the midst of challenge and extraordinary times. I just gave a copy of "Transitons" to a colleague who's sister is struggling with substance abuse and mental illness and she was very thankful as Brenner's book helped ground her and got her through these hard times--This book will bring solace and interest to everyone who dares to think and view outside the box!

Illuminating

Dr. Brenner consistently offers, through all of her books, sensitive, insightful and experienced observations on the lives of women, especially through periods of change or loss, and advice in coping with these day to day challenges, whether they be physical, emotional or spiritual. Her advice is thoughtful and practical; helping the reader to effectively confront stressful and challenging events. She illuminates the importance of ritual and encouragement from family, friends and community.
