BEST. BOOK. EVER.

Sleep with this book under your pillow. If you're lucky enough, some of Lawler's magic may decide to burgeon it's way into your own brain and heart--leading you to places you never knew could be created or even exist. His writings are riveting, tectonic, transformative and genre-defying masterpieces.
The man is an absolute genius. He's as brave and as bold as they come.

Your bookshelf needs this book

I won't spoil the surprise of reading this work. I will say this is incredibly deep and offers great insight into the masks of our tribal families. Things aren't quite as they seem.

Lawler goes off into some rather deep territory yet always bring back the focus in his cyclical write style. Everything in life happens in cycles and, regardless of intention or not, he shows that in his writing beautifully.

Beautifully written

Patrick has done it again. A beautifully written book. As each chapter unfolds so does the story of a town and a family. Like removing a layer of earth each chapter reveals another layer of emotion. We descend deeper and deeper into the cellar.
With each renaming we step closer to a universal truth, a connection, a sense of hope.
For those who have read Patrick's poetry this will be of special interest.

Craig Clunas was appointed Professor of the History of Art, University of Oxford in 2007, where he is the first holder of the chair to specialize in art from Asia. He has also has worked as a curator of Chinese art at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Hard to Process

I'm not an expert on Chinese Art but i do know something about art history so I was looking for a text to give me more depth in the subject. I have to say i find this text very dense and hard to follow. You may prefer it's organizational principle- with chapters on "Art in the Tomb" or "Art at Court" or "Art in the Temple"- i know many do- but I do not. For instance as a novice I find Michael Sullivan's "The Arts of China" easier to digest. Just my opinion.

Decent quality - not my preference

I bought this book for my Art History class. I barely opened this book because the concepts were confusing. The pictures were of decent quality, but there were very few of them. I would prefer an art book to have more pictures.

A lot of tips provided in this book cross the boundaries of IP 2010 and can be directly applied to newer versions (or easily adapted). Even though InfoPaths days appear to be numbered, the legacy customers are going to need the talent for a few years to come. Worth the read, or to have on the bookshelf for those rare emergencies.

As with his earlier Rome Sweet Home, Hahn's The Lamb's Supper seeks to bring scriptural exegesis and Roman Catholic ritual tradition into fruitful dialogue. The central thrust of this piece is that Catholic liturgy offers the best interpretive paradigm for studying the Book of Revelation. Hahn divides his subject matter into three main sections, considering in turn Scripture in the canon of the Mass, various interpretive approaches to the Book of Revelation and the mutual illumination of the Catholic Mass and John's Apocalypse. Apart from vapid section titles (e.g., "Guided Missal," "Resisting a Rest" and "The Need to Heed the Creed"), which detract from the serious themes presented, Hahn treats the material quite competently, and he is candid in his enthusiasm for both biblical liturgics and liturgical exegesis. Hahn's work is a fine introduction to eucharistic theology for the Catholic layperson, offering a crash course in the history of sacrificial worship in ancient Israel. The book has an ecumenical appeal, especially for Lutherans and Anglicans desiring to better acquaint themselves with Catholic ritual and the New Testament. The only consideration noticeably absent from Hahn's liturgical review of Revelation is whether the doxological splendors of the Mass are marred or made manifest in the hastily prepared English translations of the Latin Rite issued in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Hahn, a Protestant minister who converted to Roman Catholicism, has written extensively about the Catholic faith in previous books (A Father Who Keeps His Promises, not reviewed, etc.). Here he examines the relationship between the Divine Liturgy and the Book of Revelation. Attending his first Mass, Hahn was struck by the word used to describe Jesus: lamb. Not the majestic, awe-inspiring language we usually reserve for God. But the Book of Revelation calls Jesus lamb, too, 28 times in 22 chapters. This was Hahn's first inkling that the key to understanding the Mass was Revelation, and the key to understanding Revelation was the Mass. His was not a new insight, but if Christians in the know have long understood the connections between Revelation and the Mass, most average church-goers would cock an eyebrow quizzically at the suggestion that the last book of the Bible has anything to do with bread and wine. Hahn's exploration of the connections between them is marred by superficiality, exemplified, but not limited to, a penchant for peppering the text with cute, near-pun subheadings, such as ``Well Bread'' and ``Moriah Carry.'' Courage of a Convert

This book by Scott Hahn is very nicely done. I commend Scott in this age of free thinkers for his courage in submitting his work to the test of the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur. So many writters today who purport to be presenting Catnolic theology or faith or interpretation of scripture or the other actions activities or positions of the Catholic Church delibertely avoid submiting their work to review by Church authority so that the readers can be assured of freedom from error or against the teaching of the Catholic Church. Dr. Hahn is not affraid to placce his work on the table for legitimate review.
The work itself is a beautiful testimony to the Mass and all that it is. Dr. Hahn's presentation brims with entusiasism for the Mass. It presents a wonderful understanding of the Mass that only one with the deep understanding of scripture can give. His road to conversion never fails to amplify the beauty of the Mass. This book is a worth while read for believers and non believer alike.

What a liberating Catholic idea--at Mass, we're in heaven!

Do you know about Scott Hahn? Maybe I'm the last person on earth to discover this articulate convert and his enthusiasm for the Catholic faith. "The Lamb's Supper" is the sort of book I devoured hungrily in my first years as a Catholic. In spite of tiresome liturgies, Hahn insists that we do go to heaven at every Mass we attend, "regardless of the quality of the music or the fervor of the preaching." What a liberating, Catholic idea. We need to find out what nurtures our faith and do it; but Catholics shouldn't be experience-hunters. Hahn reminds us of God's presence in and through our chief ritual, whether we can fully sense the sacredness or not. This book also serves to remind us to nurture our faith in the Mass by reading outside of Mass. After giving us a good workout on what the Mass is all about, Hahn uses the Book of Revelation to set loose the pyrotechnic imagery we're inclined to forget. All through his brief but pithy book are vivid scenes and Endtime tableaux meant to jolt us into a keen awareness of what salvation is all about, lest we doze the Mass away in our pews.

Fantastic book! My wife and I are using this book with two different book clubs. How wonderful to unlock the power of the Mass! At first when the book arrived, I thought it was a bit thin for the price. But the content is so deep, I'd hate to think if it were any longer! Thank you, Scott Hahn!

A dog's eye view of humanity

I might secretly be a dog person, or maybe subconsciously ... but if you were to ask me I would tell you I'm not a dog person. Oh, but how I loved Enzo.

On the eve of his death, Enzo (a dog) tells what amounts to his master's life story. Stein's attention to detail was amazing - the book read like it was written by somebody who took the time to stop and think "what would a dog feel/do in this situation?" As a result, Enzo is memorable and lovable. He's at once a crotchety old man, and an innocent youth. He's wise, he's naive, and he is devoted.

I'm not going to lie to you, this book is very sad. But it is also laugh out loud funny at times, and filled with love, devotion, philosophy and hopefulness.

It's a beautiful book and definitely one of my favorites of the year.

Enjoyable, Sentimental Story

I enjoyed THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, a book that reminds me of the work of Mitch Albom or Nicholas Sparks. This is essentially the story of one man's life struggle, as seen from the perspective of the family dog. The dog, named Enzo, is as intelligent as a human being, and pretty much thinks like one. Most of the humor of the book comes from Enzo's unhappiness with his dog status, and his intense desire to be a human in the next life.

The actual plot of THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, however, revolves around Enzo's master Denny, who suffers a series of family tragedies. I personally found Denny's story a bit on the melodramatic side (nothing about this book is particularly subtle), but Enzo's presence makes this novel more original and fresh than it otherwise would be. The ending of this book struck me as a bit too Hollywood, but parts of this book are emotionally touching.

THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN is easy to read, and you can finish it in one sitting. There's quite a bit of crude humor in this novel, but I think most people will enjoy it. If you think Mitch Albom and Nicholas Sparks are pure schmaltz, you will no doubt think the same thing about this novel. But if you like short, sentimental stories, I think this book is definitely worth your time.

Wrenching and inspiring

I picked The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein simply because, being a dog lover and seeing the dog on the cover, I couldn't resist. It was one of those moments, as a reader, you'll remember for a while. What a wonderful book.

Enzo, the narrator, is a dog and Enzo wants nothing more than to be a man. Here is the only aspect of the book I might doubt. Anyone who is aware of "man's" human nature knows that dogs, as a creature, are much nobler. To become a man might not be an upward move. Nuff said there.

Enzo is part of a happy family, Denny, the racer; Denny's wife Eve, and his daughter Zoe. Life is good. But then Eve develops cancer and decides to remove herself to her parents home along with Zoe. In the end, the parents of Eve decide to challenge Denny for custody to Zoe and do so in a manner that isn't befitting grandparents.

This book will tear at you in so many ways and on so many levels. Without giving too much away let me just say that I haven't felt compelled to tear up so often by a book in a long time. Reading The Art of Racing in the Rain is like sitting through Old Yeller as a young boy and not crying. But don't let me scare you off. The Art of Racing is a book you've got to read, especially if you love dogs (or animals in general). With a wonderful storyline and characters you become attached to this book is cathartic.

Garth Stein is to be congratulated on writing a book that is sure to become a classic.

Pam Locker is the subject leader for Design for Exhibition and Museums at the University of Lincoln. She has worked as a museum and exhibition designer and consultant for a range of projects and organisations in Britain and Europe. As a Principal Teaching Fellow she has a special interest in the use of communication design in education. She has developed an online resource, 'Pencils and Pixels,' that uses filmed demonstrations to teach design students about drawing as a means of communication. Pam is a member of the Chartered Society of Designers and holds Professional Membership of the Higher Education Academy FHEA.

If you are a junior designer or brand new to exhibition design, then this book may be helpful, but I was expecting a little more substance. If you have more experience, then this is not the book for you. Some other books in the "basics" series have taken a bit of a deeper dive, but this one is definitely basic.

I gave it 3 stars because it's not a bad book, it just didn't meet my needs. This is a decent intro to the practice, but I don't recommend if you are not a beginner.

Students perspective

The book itself, is visually pleasing. It's use of colour and layout meant that it was easy to navigate through the book, not being bored by endless amounts of text. The book communicates a better understanding of the complexity in exhibition design. It explains thoroughly the different aspects of exhibition design, and the way it affects the world, and how dependant on the size and importance of the exhibition it can be used for commercial and even cultural purposes.

Reading through the book there were many examples of exhibitions or expo's, however it most cases it would only simply mention the name of the exhibition, and re frame from going into further detail. It would of also been beneficial to include more diagrams, of previous exhibitions, precedent that's already available, with various sections and plans including the scale on each drawing.

Instead of this book providing students like me with detailed precedents, of various exhibitions it simply explains all of the components of this form of design. Breaking it down and explaining the individual features and what have an effect on the overall design of an exhibition space. Which is very good for people who are trying to grasp the concept of expo design, as it explores the fundamental topics with clear diagrams and includes various examples of work from both students and professionals work.

Overall its a good buy for students, it's the first platform I would use to help in understanding and comprehending the theoretical designing of exhibitions.
