A superb introduction to the world of the bazaar.

I have traveled extensively in the Middle East and North Africa, and my favorite places are the suqs, or bazaars of each city. I have actually visited half of the bazaars featured in this book, and therefore I can attest to the accuracy of the information provided. This book captures the variety, texture, and atmosphere of the bazaar. The only aspects missing are the sounds and the aromas. Of special interest and value are the maps of each bazaar, for wandering through a suq can be an overpowering experience. Nowhere else have I come upon this type of information. The photos are well done, showing both the people and their surroundings accurately, but beautifully. This book makes me want to pay a return visit to a bazaar, soon.

Fascinating

I checked this out of the library, and when I get back from Syria and Lebanon, am going to buy it. An entirely different perspective from anything I've ever seen. Even if it does omit anything about the ongoing conflicts of the region, we already know all of that. This tells us and shows us something we don't know. When I'm walking through the bazaars in Damascus and Aleppo, I will be carrying this book in my head and seeing everything differently because of it.

The book identifies four substantive constitutional processes where the referendum is regularly used today: the founding of new states; the creation or amendment of constitutions; the establishment of complex new models of sub-state autonomy, particularly in multinational states; and the transfer of sovereign powers from European states to the European Union. The book, as a study in constitutional theory, addresses the challenges this phenomenon poses not only for particular constitutional orders, which are typically structured around a representative model of democracy, but for constitutional theory more broadly.

The main theoretical focus of the book is the relationship between the referendum and democracy. It addresses the standard criticisms which the referendum is subjected to by democratic theorists and deploys both civic republican theory and the recent turn in deliberative democracy to ask whether by good process-design the constitutional referendum is capable of facilitating the engagement of citizens in deliberative acts of constitution-making. With the referendum firmly established as a fixture of contemporary constitutionalism, the book addresses the key question for constitutional theorists and practitioners of how might its operation be made more democratic in age of constitutional transformation.

Very nicely done...

I've been a developer for over 24 years and I've been writing PHP applications for the DHS for over 10 years. I purchased this book as a desk reference and have found it very useful. It's well organized, so I can find what I'm looking for in a snap. I don't have time to read it from cover to cover, but what I have read has been very insightful and well worth the purchase price. I recommend this book over all others. I also purchased the PHP book, you know the one with the funny animals, and it was absolutely the worse book I ever read. It was not helpful at all. It was written by too many authors and left me confused. Yes, wording the same thing in 2 different ways becomes very confusing. I think I'll stick with the Experts from now on. Hope this helps.

A good book to start PHP

Minor typing errors and code errors are there, but if you are an experienced code examiner, they pose no hinder for learning the interesting PHP language. PHP is changing rapidly, so I gathered much from this book, even if all the changes made to this language are not presented in this newest book. For the novice, though, a substantial basis to start learning!

I provided a good quick reference guide to all the basic functions of PHP and MySQL. The book mostly focuses on the common and new functions for PHP. Though it mentions the legacy functions the new ones replace it does not provide a lot of detail on the legacy functions. So if you are planning on updating/optimizing your legacy PHP code, this book will definitely help. If you need a reference book for a legacy functions code you are better off using the docs on [...]

About the Author

Fr�d�ric Delavier is a gifted artist with an exceptional knowledge of human anatomy. He studied morphology and anatomy for five years at the prestigious �cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and studied dissection for three years at the Paris Facult� de M�decine.

�

The former editor in chief of the French magazine PowerMag, Delavier is currently a journalist for the French magazine Le Monde du Muscle and a contributor to several other muscle publications, including Men's Health Germany.

Delavier won the French powerlifting title in 1988 and makes annual presentations on the sport applications of biomechanics at conferences in Switzerland. His teaching efforts have earned him the Grand Prix de Techniques et de P�dagogie Sportive. Delavier lives in Paris, France.

Great way to learn muscle anatomy and exercise form at the same time

I owned the first edition of Strength Training Anatomy (blue cover) for nearly 15 years and I've been recommending this book to my clients for that long as well. I decided to pick up the new 3rd edition (red cover) to update my library and also to write this review.

This book's concept and contents have been imitated many times, but Delavier's is the original and the best.

In a nutshell, Strength Training Anatomy is a book of expertly drawn illustrations of the human body (over 600) performing weight training exercises. The primary muscles being worked are colored in red and clearly labeled. The bones, muscle fibers and muscular attachments are also beautifully illustrated.

The book is divided into seven sections: Arms, Shoulders, Chest, Back, Legs, Buttocks and Abdomen. No space is wasted with introductions - the book jumps right into arms in the opening pages. A page is devoted to each exercise, and a small amount of text accompanies each illustration, explaining proper form and giving additional tips or precautions. Sidebars show exercise variations, start and finish positions and additional details (such as deep muscle anatomy with the exact muscle tendon insertions on the bone).

The length is 192 pages, so it's not overwhelming - it's very digestible, yet it's also very thorough in terms of the number of exercises covered. All the major and important barbell and dumbbell exercises are included. In addition, you'll learn a variety of cable exercises and a handful of common and useful machine exercises.

I don't think there's any reader from any demographic or experience level that won't benefit from owning this book. It will be appreciated by all ages and by men and women, especially since both male and female models are used in the illustrations. For beginners, this could be a training instruction "bible" for learning how to do the exercises properly and understanding exactly what muscles are working.

Some people might suggest this book is only suited for the beginner, but I think advanced trainees and even fitness professionals will find this book valuable as a reference guide and may even want to keep it on their shelf within arms reach.

This material is not just for bodybuilders, but as a bodybuilder myself, I think there is another potential benefit of this book that I haven't seen anyone else mention. Bodybuilders need to develop the ability to visualize muscle actions and learn how to enhance their mind to muscle connection. Studying the drawings and looking at the muscles engaged, the direction of the fibers and where they insert and attach could be a great tool to help with these mental skills.

As for the 3rd edition, there is new material in this update, including much more content (it's longer, with more exercises). There are also new sections on stretching and avoiding common injuries.

The publisher, Human Kinetics consistently puts out some great titles, and this is among the best of them. The book quality is excellent, including the cover, binding, paper, and again, the illustrations on every page are fantastic. The author is clearly a skilled artist who also has a medical-level understanding of the human body.

Potential readers should know before buying, that this book does not contain workout programs - it focuses solely on individual exercise instruction and exercise anatomy. That doesn't detract from the value in my opinion, it actually helps keeps this volume concise and focused on one thing: strength training exercises and anatomy.

On that note, again, this is not a text-heavy book and while you do get an explanation and illustration of each exercise, you don't get
in-depth written details on biomechanics and muscle actions. You're mainly getting exercise instruction and muscle anatomy lessons.

Also, this IS an anatomy book, so if looking at body parts and human anatomy bothers you, then you might want to take a pass. (All body parts are depicted, in places).

In summary, this book deserves its 5-star ratings, and its sales and longevity in the fitness book market are not surprising.

A dissapointment after the original masterpiece.

I was disappointed in this book. I was expecting another masterpiece like the original 'Strength Training Anatomy'. Instead, this book is disjointed and confusing.

A lot of the illustrations were taken from Strength Training Anatomy. There's even one drawing with a description that gives a correction about the form - instead of making a new drawing, the writer just lazily reused a drawing from the previous book.

Most of the new illustrations are mediocre photos. Also, this book focuses entirely on dumbbell training, no barbell work is included.

I feel like some of the workout routines are interesting and I will be trying them. Still, this book rates only a 'meh' due to the sloppy way it was constructed.

Amazing resource!

First off, since you're here, I'm assuming you have some interest in strength training. If you had to mull it over or answered the obvious 'duh bro' then get this book!
I've been into strength training for 10 years and with all the research, planning, tracking I was still missing a lot more than I thought. Strength Training Anatomy is packed with information on every page. Showing you a huge amount of movements and exercises. Not only does it go through proper form but it explains everything. This really helped me at creating my own plans. But the Illustrations...they are just as good as the writing. Showing the high and low points of muscle stretching in amazing detail. I've passed this down to buddies of mine, family members...and they were all impressed!
This is a resource to help you GROW. Both in knowledge and in size! Whether your goals are bulking and packing on size, or losing weight the way everyone should, this book will help you take it to the next level!

Good book on Requirements, would recommend any professional that has to works with requirements get a copy to read.

For once a good book on Requirements. I could actually stay awake while reading it. Working on IEEEs Requirements test and I have been reading a lot of material, this one is a keeper. I admit that MS Requirements 3th edition is the most complete book on the subject, but it truly is like sitting in a under grad class with the most mono-tone professor possible, you have to work hard just to stay interested. This book actually works at drawing in your interest.

Simple, practical, thorough

This is a straightforward and engaging piece of work focused on the soft side of requirements. Don't come here looking for a technical treatise on requirements management tools, but do buy this book if you need a clear overview of how to arrive at the requirements to manage.

I found it very well organized. There are dedictaed chapters on types / levels of requirements from stakeholder identification through goals, scenarios and constraints, followed with clear examples of how to explore and document those requirements, and techniques for use with individuals, groups and other systems.

Of necessity, in this kind of broad treatise your challenge will be to select the tools and techniques to use among the many that are presented, but with this book you will have no shortage of ideas.
